Luang Prabang – Pangkham Lodge

After a horrendous 6 hour bus journey through the winding mountains of Laos we finally arrived in Luang Prabang. Our time here didn’t start too well after arriving at the hotel we had booked via Agoda and finding that they had not actually reserved the Double Room (which we had already paid $23 a night for) they had reserved a twin bed room. Ordinarily we wouldn’t care too much but after seeing it we realised the hotel was extremely overpriced and therefore complained and tried to get our money back. The lady at the desk apologised and said she couldn’t give us our money back and that we had to email Agoda directly. Anyway long story short we did finally get our money back and our lives were brightened up after walking down the street to find Pangkham Lodge, a beautiful guesthouse with so much more on offer for the $20 they were charging.

Bedroom and Bathroom in Pangkham Lodge

Guesthouse Name and Address: Pangkham Lodge, 06/01 Banthatluang, Town Center, Luang Prabang, Laos

Room Details: Double Room with air conditioning, en suite and TV

Price per night: We paid $20 per night, although this is high compared to Vang Vieng, everybody we met and spoke to said they had paid the same or more in Luang Prabang.

Pro’s of Pangkham Lodge:

  • Comfortable Bed
  • Powerful hot shower
  • Great location
  • Good Value compared to other Hotels/ Guesthouses in the area
  • Very friendly staff

Con’s of Pangkham Lodge:

  • Doors were locked at 11pm so we had to pay to get into our room if we arrived later than that
  • Room was a little bit small, great bed but not much space around it

Marks out of 10: 7/10

Would we stay there again?

Yes – Even though the price was expensive, the location was great and compared to other hotels in the area it was a much better deal.

  1. Sounds like you gays are having fun. I’m not jealous at all as I sit here and write this from the HSBC offices in the arse end of Bur Dubai. Almost makes me want to sell the car and give up the beach side apartment … almost.

    • Ha! You still need to make some plans for coming out to meet us. But we need a place to crash on the way home and the beach apartment would do just fine thanks!
